Becoming a Canadian citizen is the final step after Permanent Residency (PR). It gives you full rights, including a passport and voting.

Applications are handled by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Eligibility Requirements

To apply, you must:

  • Be a Permanent Resident (PR)
  • Have lived in Canada for at least 3 years (1095 days) in the last 5 years
  • Have filed taxes (if required)
  • Pass English/French language requirement (age 18–54)
  • Pass citizenship test
